Special Weather Statement — City of Hyder
Severity: Moderate. Certainty: Observed.
A glacier dammed lake outburst from Summit Lake continues on the
Salmon River near Hyder. Water levels as of 9 pm Wednesday are at
25.0 ft at the river gage. Which is around 6 ft higher then what it
was at before the event started. Water levels are expected to
continue to rise through Wednesday night with an expected crest
occurring either Wednesday night or Thursday. It is unknown how much
water will be released from Summit Lake which results in large
uncertainty on crest height and timing.

Potential impact area for this event is the road from Hyder to
Premier, Canada at around mile point 9 along the Salmon River.

Be aware of debris in the water. Very cold water will increase the
threat of hypothermia. Please report any observed impacts to the
National Weather Service.
