Hydrologic Outlook — Petersburg Borough; Western Kupreanof and Kuiu Island; Prince of Wales Island; City and Borough of Wrangell; Ketchikan Gateway Borough; City of Hyder; Annette Island
Severity: Unknown. Certainty: Possible.
ESFAJK

An atmospheric river will move into the region Thursday, driving
heavy rain across much of the Panhandle into the weekend. However,
areas south of Frederick Sound will likely see the heaviest rain.
Anticipate 24 hour rainfall amounts to reach 3 to 5 inches at sea
level for many communities south of Frederick Sound, with localized
areas near Ketchikan and Misty Fjords closer to 4 to 6 inches,
especially in the mountains. At this time, the primary threat is many
rivers and streams reaching bankfull conditions with ponding of water
on roads and areas of poor drainage. Mariners, check those bilge
pumps.

Significant rises and flooding in rivers is possible but at this time
there exists large variability in how rain develops and persists
across the southern Panhandle.

Stay tuned to weather.gov/juneau as we continue to assess the
situation and make updates to the forecast.
