NIH grant 1P01CA295557-01A1: Administrative Core
Institute: {'code': 'CA', 'abbreviation': 'NCI', 'name': 'National Cancer Institute', 'admin_org_id': '12500008', 'admin_funding_url': ''}. PI: Julio A. Aguirre-Ghiso. Award: $221464.
Start: 2026-08-26T00:00:00.
SUMMARY: Recognizing the needs that the Administrative Core must fulfill at multiple administrative and scientific levels we
propose the following specific aims:
Specific Aim 1: To provide the Projects, Sub-awards and Cores with rigorous administrative infrastructure
needed to achieve: 1) the scientific goals of the program project; 2) its general administration; 3) fiscal oversight,
and; 4) communication among participants in the program, inclusive of processes for conflict resolution.
Specific Aim 2: To provide a centralized structure to coordinate research meetings, travel, journal clubs, workin-
progress meetings, seminars and retreats, Scientific Steering Committee and External Advisory Board
meetings, and external interactions with the other PPG teams, the NCI, and the metastasis research community.
Specific Aim 3: To provide overall support of scientific evaluation and reporting activities, i.e., to facilitate review
by the Scientific Steering Committee and External Advisory Board, and the preparation of progress reports and
papers.
The efforts of the PPG team would not be possible unless the members of the Administrative Core ensure close
communication between both senior investigators and trainees, and provide administrative, operational, financial
and regulatory support and oversight across member institutions. The Program Project Grant creates a virtual
center for innovative study on the biology of early dissemination and cancer cell dormancy, and the
Administrative Core provides administrative and logistic support to accomplish this. This ability to marshal the
intellectual and laboratory resources of each of the member institutions will lead to progress in our fundamental
understanding of early dissemination, local recurrence and metastasis progression.
