While Swiggy's quarterly results highlighted continued investments in quick commerce, the company's earnings call offered fresh insight into how it plans to differentiate Instamart in an increasingly competitive market. Rather than focusing only on network expansion, management outlined a strategy centred on exclusive products, private labels and brand partnerships, while reiterating its path towards cash break-even over the next two quarters.
A key announcement during the call was the launch of "Switch to Better", an initiative aimed at offering differentiated products on Instamart. According to management, the programme brings together large FMCG companies, challenger brands and Swiggy's own private labels to develop products that are available only on the platform.
The company said exclusivity often extends to individual SKUs rather than entire brands. For example, multiple high-protein oat variants have been developed exclusively for Instamart, while some brands offer exclusive pricing on the platform. In categories such as eggs, Swiggy is promoting its own private label. Management said the objective is to provide customers with better products at competitive prices.
Executives also indicated that the strategy is category-specific. Depending on the segment, Instamart works with established FMCG brands, emerging direct-to-consumer companies or its own private labels. The company believes this approach can help build differentiation as competition in quick commerce intensifies.
Beyond merchandising, Swiggy shared an update on profitability. Chief Financial Officer Rahul Bothra said improving margins in the food delivery business and treasury income are expected to help the company achieve overall cash break-even within the next two quarters, even as investments in quick commerce continue.
Management also outlined its capital allocation framework for new businesses. It said emerging initiatives are first evaluated for product-market fit and business-market fit before receiving additional investment. Once those milestones are achieved, businesses are expected to scale with clear unit economics rather than relying on continued capital deployment.
The company added that it will share more details on its broader strategy during its upcoming Investor Day.
The earnings call suggests Swiggy is gradually moving beyond competing only on delivery speed. While rapid fulfillment remains the foundation of Instamart, the company's next phase appears to hinge on offering products that customers cannot easily find elsewhere. Through exclusive SKUs, private labels and brand partnerships, Swiggy is attempting to build a differentiated shopping experience that can improve customer retention and margins as competition in quick commerce intensifies.
