Commvault Cloud Rewind now wraps round even more Azure
Commvault has expanded its Cloud Rewind cyber recovery tool to treble the amount of Azure resources it supports.
The New Jersey-based company says the move will speed up customers’ ability to both cloud applications and their underlying resources.
Cloud Rewind offers continuous discovery of cloud resources and dependencies and orchestration of cloud application recovery and rebuild.
The latest Azure enhancements include the ability to define protection groups which unite app data and cloud configuration info into “a single air gapped recovery experience” and “more advanced” policies for discovering and enrolling resources as a single workflow, so they do not have to be onboarded one at a time.
The expansion means it now covers 62 percent of Azure services, including what the company describes as “the most critical Azure services across compute and containers, storage, databases, networking, security, and load balancing.” This will be “dynamic and based on customer demand” the company added.
The company cited 4.5 days as the typical recovery time for recovery from a cyber attack for 57 percent of companies, according to Absolute Security's 2026 State of Enterprise Cyber Resilience report. This is down, in large, to the time it takes to laboriously manually rebuild environments.
We asked how much time the enhanced Rewind would save customers facing an application rebuilt. It didn’t put a figure on this, but said a single platform for discovering resources and dependencies and orchestrating recovery would eliminate “much of the manual effort traditionally required …and helps ensure that applications and services are restored in a coordinated manner.”
Cloud Rewind was launched back in 2024, and grew out of Appranix which the company acquired earlier that year. At the time, Appranix’ focus was on AWS.
However Rewind added Google Cloud and Azure support when the technology was reinvented as Cloud Rewind. While AWS probably still has the broadest support, the company announced expanded collaboration with Google back in January, covering products including Air Gap Protect and Cloud Rewind.
