Dow Jones Today Live Updates: S&P 500, Nasdaq hold relatively steady on Monday.
Synopsis
Dow Jones Today | US Stock Market Live: The Nasdaq notched a record high close on Monday, lifted by Nvidia and Microsoft, as investors focused on a dip in oil prices and looked ahead to quarterly earnings reports. The S&P 500 gained 51.50 points, or 0.67%, to end at 7,774.22 points, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 289.42 points, or 1.06%, to 27,480.28. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 94.59 points, or 0.18%, to 51,274.32.

Front-month gas futures for November delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 3.1 cents, or 1.0%, to settle at $3.066 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), their highest close since September 25 for a second day in a row.

A combination of elevated oil prices and surging bond yields has derailed a broadening in the rally that was supposed to propel stocks to new records. Bulls are confronting a harsh reality: adding major positioning isn’t worth it right now. The bond selloff is capping the appeal of equities, a strengthening dollar is hampering liquidity, and the threat of Iran war re-escalation has kept US benchmark crude oil prices around $90 a barrel. The deteriorating picture leaves investors, reluctant to cash out more than they have already, wondering what’s next. (Read more)
