Synopsis
Sensex Today | Nifty 50 | Stock Market Live Updates: Markets came under heavy selling pressure on Thursday, extending the ongoing correction and falling nearly 1.5%. After opening on a weak note, the benchmark indices remained under pressure through most of the session, eventually closing near their day’s lows amid widespread selling.
Benchmark indices remained under sustained pressure throughout Thursday’s session, as a surge in US bond yields and a sharp rise in international crude oil prices above $104 a barrel dragged the Nifty to a fresh 52-week low. Persistent foreign institutional investor (FII) selling and expectations of further RBI rate hikes added to the bearish sentiment, with concerns mounting over the impact of higher borrowing costs on long-term economic growth.
From a technical perspective, analysts said the Nifty has broken below a long-term trendline connecting the highs of the past two years and closed below its 200-week exponential moving average (EMA) at 22,379. Consequently, any recovery is likely to encounter stiff resistance in the 22,400–22,600 range.
