Jim Cramer's top 10 things to watch in the stock market Wednesday

@jimcramer
My top 10 things to watch Wednesday, Sept. 9 1. Back to $100 a barrel we go on Brent crude. Stock futures, predictably, are lower this morning. It will be very hard for stocks to rally facing $100 oil this time because of the huge drawdowns of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and the obvious lack of deterrence by the U.S. military in the Middle East. Bond yields are also up, which adds another layer of pressure on stocks. 2. It's iPhone launch day and our introduction to new Apple CEO John Ternus, who took the baton from legendary boss Tim Cook on Sept. 1. The presentation kicks off at 1 p.m. ET. We expect to see a new foldable iPhone and new iPhone Pro and Pro Max models, among other updates. Pricing for the phones matters in the face of soaring memory costs. Shares enter today off about 7% from their late July closing highs. 3. Meta Platforms is wisely addressing the backlash to AI data centers head on. In an interview on the Ruthless podcast, President and Vice Chair Dina Powell McCormick said Meta is paying for its own energy and working to "drive down electricity costs." Powell, a Goldman alum and former Trump advisor, said Meta is giving teachers and first responders "direct bonuses," explaining that schools and public services are most impacted when these facilities are being built. This is what all the tech companies need to do to quell political and community opposition. 4. Amazon is tapping the debt market again, this time in the U.K., with its first-ever bonds offered in sterling. The size is 4 billion pounds, or $5.4 billion. Alphabet 's Google is also making a move in Europe, with a 13 billion euro, or $15.1 billion, investment in AI infrastructure in Finland. The buildout continues. Both Amazon and Alphabet are Club names. Our Monthly Meeting for September is tomorrow at noon ET. Sign up here . 5. Casey's General Stores is down almost 10% after an earnings report that left some things to be desired. Rare occurrence. Despite a headline beat on sales and earnings, Casey's saw a decline in same-store fuel gallons sold, thanks to high gas prices. That fed into a deceleration in convenience store comps (up 3.2% versus 5.5% last quarter). This one has been a big winner. Been a fan of the story for ages. 6. UBS started coverage of Thermo Fisher and Danaher , both picks-and-shovels providers to the pharma industry, with buy ratings. After many years of post-Covid boom distortions, analysts believe the life-sciences tools space is well on its way back to normalized, attractive growth patterns. Danaher, once revered, has been a particularly weak performer under Rainer Blair. Can incoming CEO Julie Sawyer Montgomery get it back to its old glory? She takes over Oct. 1. 7. Wells Fargo downgraded construction materials provider Vulcan Materials to sell from hold due to a more cautious outlook for 2027, driven by higher interest rates and less government spending. Kind of a shocking call given Vulcan's track record. On the other hand, Wells upgraded Martin Marietta on benefits from its $13.5 billion Lhoist North America acquisition , which closed Aug. 24 . 8. Loop Capital initiated coverage across fintech. Hold ratings for SoFi , Upstart , and Klarna , which has been a particularly horrible stock since last year's debut. Buy recommendation for Affirm , which I agree with. One of the highest-quality growth stocks and one of the non-data center stocks I believe investors should take a look at now. 9. ServiceTitan is down 18% premarket after a disappointing earnings print for the maker of blue-collar trades software. Revenues beat expectations, but by a relatively modest amount versus its track record. Worse yet, top-line guidance for the current quarter was light. Very disappointing, since ServiceTitan's mission of helping tradespeople is terrific. Bunch of price target cuts, including at Wells Fargo and Citi. 10. Jersey Mike's is up about 1% after turning in a solid first earnings report since its July initial public offering. Transactions grew in the quarter, and same-store sales outlook for the current period was ahead of consensus. Will be digging into the numbers tonight on "Mad Money." Jersey Mike's has a strong brand and plenty of runway to add stores.
