## extract

Coastal Flood Advisory — Hatteras Island
Severity: Minor. Certainty: Likely.
* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, 1 to 2 feet of
inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines
and tidal waterways. For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous
rip currents and large breaking waves expected in the surf
zone.

* WHERE...Hatteras Island.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 11 AM EDT Monday.
For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 8 AM EDT Saturday
through Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Ocean overwash impacts may continue the next several
days, especially around high tide, in areas were dunes have been
compromised. NC-12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe
remains closed. The next high tide is around 630 AM Saturday.
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore
into deeper water. Dangerous shore break can throw a swimmer or
surfer head first into the bottom causing neck and back
injuries.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip
currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,
which will occur around 1 PM Saturday. Tide levels will
continue to rise with King Tide Cycle in place through the
upcoming work- week. The morning high tide will be the highest
of the two daily tides. King Tide peaks Tuesday and Wednesday.
