ABSTRACT – ADMINISTRATIVE CORE
The Rare Lung Diseases Consortium (RLDC) is designed to accelerate the development and application of new
knowledge about rare lung diseases and engage the respective lung disease communities and clinical research
centers for cooperative studies and treatment trials. Together, we will conduct clinical, longitudinal and natural
history studies to identify diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers, elucidate new pharmaceutical
targets, refine and develop therapeutic strategies, and set the stage for future pivotal trials.
The Administrative Core (AC) is integral to the success of our consortium, providing essential support and
infrastructure, and ensuring seamless coordination among all projects, cores, patient advocacy groups (PAGs),
the Data Management and Coordinating Center (DMCC), and NIH. The AC’s objectives are to organize
infrastructure support, provide fiscal administration, coordinate communications, manage policies and
documentation, maintain regulatory compliance, manage and share data and biospecimens, and create and
distribute educational materials. We will accomplish these goals by leveraging and further strengthening our
successful model of patient, clinician, industry, and federal collaboration, developing innovative strategies to
create and disseminate information to the broader healthcare and patient population, and engaging and
expanding the Rare Lung Disease Clinic Network.
To accomplish its objectives, the AC will pursue the following Specific Aims: AIM 1: Provide organizational
support and fiscal administration to execute the RLDC mission. AIM 2: Coordinate and facilitate communication
across the network. AIM 3: Create and manage regulatory and clinical documentation. AIM 4: Manage and
share clinical and patient reported data and biospecimens. AIM 5: Generate and disseminate educational
materials for all rare lung disease stakeholders.
The AC will bring together an ardent team of rare lung disease champions with complementary expertise. This
robust team of scientists, clinicians, and PAGs, will work collaboratively to ensure a comprehensive approach to
addressing the unique challenges of rare lung diseases. By leveraging their collective knowledge and
experience, the AC will facilitate seamless coordination, effective resource allocation, and innovative research,
ultimately advancing the understanding, diagnosis and management of rare lung diseases. Effective execution
of the AC’s responsibilities will not only help achieve current funding cycle goals but also establish enduring
resources and infrastructure for successful future rare lung disease research.
