Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 22.72 billion transactions worth Rs 28.92 lakh crore in June 2026, as India’s real time payments network continued to maintain monthly transaction volumes above the 22 billion mark.
According to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI handled around 757 million transactions a day during the month, while the average daily transaction value stood at approximately Rs 96,405 crore.
The latest figures come after UPI crossed the 23 billion monthly transaction milestone for the first time in May, when it processed 23.20 billion transactions worth Rs 29.90 lakh crore.
On a month-on-month basis, transaction volume declined 2.1%, while transaction value fell 3.3%. However, the lower monthly transaction count was also due to the shorter calendar month. While May had 31 days, June had 30, June recorded a higher average daily transaction count of 757 million, compared with 748 million in May. At the same daily run rate, June would have processed around 23.47 billion transactions in a 31 day month, ahead of May’s record 23.20 billion transactions.
On a year-on-year basis, transaction volume increased 23%, while transaction value rose 20%, reflecting continued expansion of the country’s digital payments ecosystem.
UPI processed 22.35 billion transactions worth Rs 29.03 lakh crore in April before climbing to a record 23.20 billion transactions worth Rs 29.90 lakh crore in May.
NPCI has also released the app wise market share data for May. PhonePe retained its lead with 46.26% share by transaction volume and 49.06% by transaction value. Google Pay followed with 32.75% share by volume and 33.54% by value, while Paytm remained the third largest UPI app with 7.91% share by volume and 6.66% by value.
NPCI is yet to publish the app wise market share breakup for June.
