Toxin-free cookware brand The Indus Valley has raised $17 million in a funding round led by Gaja Capital, with participation from existing investors DSG Consumer Partners, Rukam Capital, and The Chennai Angels.
The round includes primarily primary capital along with a partial secondary sale by some early investors.
The fresh capital will be used to enter new product categories, strengthen its omnichannel distribution network, and invest in brand building and marketing initiatives.
Founded by Jagadeesh Kumar, the firm sells cookware and kitchen products made from materials such as cast iron, iron, copper, clay, and wood.
The company operates in the premium kitchenware segment, where consumer demand for chemical-free and toxin-free products has been growing steadily.
The fundraise comes nearly 18 months after The Indus Valley raised Rs 23.1 crore (around $2.75 million) in a pre-Series A round led by DSG Consumer Partners. The Chennai-based startup was valued at about Rs 303 crore ($36 million). Entrackr had exclusively reported the development.
For Gaja Capital, the investment adds another portfolio company. The private equity firm has backed consumer brands such as Eggoz as well as enterprise software company LeadSquared. In December last year, the homegrown private equity firm filed an updated draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) for its Rs 656 crore initial public offering, becoming the first Indian private equity firm to seek a public listing.
