Neocloud Nebul's five storage options
European Neo cloud Nebul has five storage options it provides to its GPU-using clients and they’re intended for different workloads.
When we found about the four storage options: DDN EXAScaler and Infinia, NetApp ONTAP and VAST Data’s AI OS, we were intrigued and approached Nebul with some questions. And then found out it had five options, not four.
We asked: “Could it say how Nebul positions its four storage offerings please? Meaning DDN'sEXAScaler and Infinia, NetApp ONTAP and VAST Data's AI OS.
“DDN says Nebul is using Infinia for KV Cache workloads while Nebul's website positions it for data lake storage. Our understanding is that all four operating systems support NVIDIA's KV cache scheme and so we think it unlikely that Nebul will only be using Infinia for KV cache workloads. Could you confirm that this is the case please?”
Dion Bonné, Nebul’s Chief Product and Revenue Officer, told us: “You're right, we use several storage platforms, each serving different use cases. Let me explain how we position them.
- DDN Infinia is our AI-native data lake and inference storage platform. It also supports advanced capabilities such as KV cache offloading through NVIDIA Dynamo and NIXL integration, which makes it particularly interesting for inference workloads.
- DDN EXAScaler is used for workloads requiring extreme storage throughput to keep GPUs fully saturated. This is primarily relevant for large-scale AI training.
- NetApp ONTAP provides enterprise file and object storage, particularly for customers already using the NetApp ecosystem who want to bring their existing data into AI workloads and applications.
- NetApp - https://www.blocksandfiles.com/file/2026/09/29/netapp-unveils-fastest-file-system-on-the-planet-with-great-raft-of-other-announcements/5299808 - Novus is a high-performance parallel file system targeting similar workloads to DDN EXAScaler, but with the added benefit of integration into the broader NetApp data ecosystem.
- VAST Data goes beyond storage and provides an integrated data platform. With capabilities such as VAST Database and DataEngine, customers can bring AI-native data services directly into their data infrastructure.
“Like most cloud providers, we don't believe in a single storage platform for every workload. Different architectures have different strengths, and ultimately the customer's use case, performance requirements, and preferences determine which platform makes the most sense.
“On your specific KV cache question: today we use DDN Infinia exclusively for KV cache workloads. That may change in the future as the technology evolves, but we're very happy with our collaboration with DDN and Nvidia. We've been working closely with their teams on optimizing protocols and integrations, with some impressive results documented in the recent whitepaper.
“So, to answer your original question, Infinia hasn't replaced NetApp or any of our other storage platforms. They complement each other, and we continue to invest in these different technologies to give our customers the best solution for their workloads."
