Luis Silberwasser, chairman and CEO of TNT Sports, is departing the soon-to-be merged Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to people familiar with the matter. Silberwasser informed his team of the news Monday in an e-mailed note, said the people, who asked not to be named because the communication was private. "I am writing to let you know that, with the closing of the Paramount–WBD merger, I will be departing the company as TNT Sports and CBS Sports come together under new leadership," Silberwasser said in his note, which CNBC has obtained. David Berson, president and chief executive officer of CBS Sports, will lead a newly formed global sports group that will oversee all networks, platforms and territories. The CBS Sports, TNT Sports and WBD Sports brands will roll up into the new group. Sources familiar with the matter say Skydance is expected to make a formal announcement about Berson's move soon. A CBS spokesperson declined to comment. The combined company, which last week announced it will be named Skydance, will own a large swath of sports rights, including NFL Sunday afternoon games, all of March Madness, college football, NHL, MLB, The Masters, and many others. The Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery merger is expected to close tomorrow, Oct. 6. Silberwasser joined TNT Sports in 2022 from Univision. Warner Bros. Discovery lost NBA live rights in 2025, concluding a 40-year relationship with the league. Still, Silberwasser struck new multiyear deals to sublicense College Football Playoff games and air events such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW), the French Open and NASCAR races. That helped Warner Bros. Discovery reach distribution deals with pay TV providers and maintain distribution fees even without the NBA. Berson must now look at his entire portfolio and decide which sports are worth keeping and which can be shed as Skydance looks to pay down nearly $80 billion in debt in the coming years.
