1. China Mobile — $220.33 bn | China Mobile holds the crown as the world’s most valuable telecom company, with a market cap of $220.33 billion. It’s also the only telecom operator ahead of Jio in subscriber scale: Jio is the world’s second-largest single-country operator after China Mobile. Even so, China Mobile’s market value is roughly $83 billion above Jio’s. (Image: Wikimedia Commons) 2. Verizon Communications — $182.09 bn | The US carrier ranks second at $182.09 billion, the highest of the three American telecom giants in this list. It also leads its rival AT&T by about $41 billion, a gap that shows how much market value can separate companies in the same domestic market. (Image: Wikimedia Commons) 3. T-Mobile — $157.50 bn | T-Mobile takes third place at $157.50 billion, making it the second most valuable US telco. Germany’s Deutsche Telekom, which holds a controlling stake in the company, also appears further down this list, so the T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom slots are closely linked. It is just $3.90 billion ahead of Jio, so a small move in either stock on a volatile listing day could change this ranking. Together, the three US carriers account for about $480.65 billion of market value, more than any other country on the list. (Image: Reuters) 5. Jio Platforms — $137.16 bn | Jio Platforms enters the list at No. 5 with a market cap of $137.16 billion, ahead of Deutsche Telekom by $1.53 billion and Bharti Airtel by $9.43 billion. The company launched in 2016 with a bet on ultra-cheap data. (Image: Reuters) 6. Deutsche Telekom — $135.63 bn | Europe’s biggest representative on the list is Deutsche Telekom, at $135.63 billion, and Jio has overtaken it by a thin margin. Its sizeable stake in T-Mobile helps explain why a European company ranks alongside American and Asian giants. (Image: Reuters) 7. Bharti Airtel — $127.73 bn | Jio’s long-time rival Airtel is India’s other entry in the top 10, at $127.73 billion. Jio built its customer base by winning users from Airtel and Vodafone with aggressive pricing, and it now also leads on market value by $9.43 billion. Between them, the two Indian telecom companies are worth about $264.89 billion. (Image: Reuters) 8. NTT — $98.57 bn | Japan’s NTT ranks eighth at $98.57 billion, a drop of nearly $29 billion from Airtel above it. This is where the list’s gaps widen: the top seven companies are all above $127 billion, while the bottom three are all below $100 billion. (Image: Reuters) 9. China Telecom — $87.89 bn | China Telecom is the second Chinese company in the top 10, at $87.89 billion. Together with China Mobile, China accounts for about $308.22 billion of market value, second only to the US on this list. (Image: Wikimedia Commons) 10. KDDI Corp — $71.06 bn | Japan’s KDDI closes out the list at $71.06 billion. Jio’s market cap is nearly double that, about 1.9 times, which shows how far the newly listed company has climbed in a single day. NTT and KDDI together bring Japan’s total to $169.63 billion.
