APAC data center developer DayOne has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Singaporean power company Sembcorp Utilities to explore the integration of power and energy solutions at DayOne’s data centers across Asia. According to the companies, the MoU will evaluate solutions across areas including on-site power infrastructure and generation, renewable energy supply, and operations and maintenance services. DayOne said that the MoU is part of its Bring-Your-Own-Power initiative, which seeks to integrate power planning into the earliest stages of data center development, identifying and securing energy solutions. The company said that the approach seeks to reduce execution risk, navigate increasingly constrained power markets, and provide customers with greater certainty as they scale. "Scaling digital infrastructure means thinking about the energy pathways powering it from the outset," said Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne. "Our approach is to secure the critical resources—including power, land, water, and connectivity—early, so we can execute with speed while building responsibly for the long term. Working with Sembcorp gives us an opportunity to explore integrated data center, power, and energy solutions as we continue to expand across the region." Koh Chiap Khiong, president & CEO, Gas and Related Services, Sembcorp, added: "Powering AI requires energy infrastructure to grow alongside digital infrastructure. By working with DayOne early in the development of its projects, we can explore energy solutions that support its evolving requirements and continued growth across Asia. Together, we aim to help build the energy foundations needed to support the rapid growth of AI and digital infrastructure across the region." The companies said that the MoU will lay the foundation for a framework to allow the partners to explore areas including reliable and cost-competitive power solutions, power generation and electrical infrastructure, fuel supply and storage, renewable energy solutions, and associated technical and operational services. The MoU builds on an already existing relationship between the two firms. Last July, the companies signed a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sembcorp Power. According to reporting at the time, the energy will be backed by bundled renewable energy certificates (RECs), sourced locally or imported via grid-to-grid connection. DayOne is currently preparing to launch an Initial Public Offering on the Nasdaq market. In its IPO prospectus, the company revealed that it had 962MW of capacity in service as of September 20, up from 675MW in June. It has 1.3GW of capacity currently under construction, compared to 1.1GW in June, and said it expects to deliver this by December 2028. In Malaysia, DayOne operates two facilities in Johor; one at the Nusajaya Tech Park and another in the Kempas Tech Park, offering a total of 120MW across the two sites. The company has also, in recent months, acquired land in Selangor from Malaysian property developer Mah Sing and purchased 65 acres of land in Johor from Malaysian property group Paragon Globe earlier this year. In September, the company announced it was working with NB Power Generation, a subsidiary of Malaysian electrical utility TNB, to explore the development of an up to 1.5GW on-site generation solution for the in-development data center in Selangor. Sembcorp has signed several power agreements with data center providers over recent years. Earlier this week, the company inked a deal with Nxera Singapore to supply low-carbon power to the company’s data center. Before this, in March, the company signed a 25-year energy supply agreement with a subsidiary of Meta, Malkoha Pte, to construct, own, and operate a 150MW floating solar project in Singapore.
