Daptic Raises $15M to End Late-Stage Compliance Surprises for Manufacturers

extract

Manufacturers now design products for many markets at once, and each market brings its own rules on chemicals, packaging, recycling, cybersecurity, and AI. Those rules usually reach engineers late, after spreadsheets, email threads, and outside consultants pass them between teams, so a requirement that could have shaped a design in week one forces a redesign shortly before launch. Daptic builds a shared system where regulatory, legal, and engineering teams track rule changes, decide which ones apply to a product, and turn them into requirements. The platform monitors more than 10,000 regulatory sources worldwide, links every requirement to its source text, and records how each team interpreted it, while AI handles the first pass and human experts make the final calls. Large Fortune 200 manufacturers already use it, and new customers receive their first regulatory report within two days of setup. Daptic calls its category Product Compliance Lifecycle Management, and it aims to make compliance an input to design instead of a gate at the end of development. AlleyWatch sat down with Daptic cofounder and CEO Baptiste Bouvier to learn more about the business, its future plans, recent funding round, and much, much more… Who were your investors and how much did you raise? We raised a $15M Series A led by Canvas Ventures, bringing Daptic’s total funding to approximately $22M. Rebecca Lynn of Canvas Ventures is also joining our board. We’re really excited about the group of investors supporting Daptic at this stage. Rebecca and the Canvas team have a deep understanding of the opportunity we’re pursuing and the kind of company we want to build. We’re looking forward to having Rebecca’s perspective on the board as we continue to grow Daptic and bring regulatory intelligence much closer to the product-development process. Tell us about the product or service that Daptic offers. Daptic helps companies that build physical products bring product compliance directly into product development. There is an enormous amount of expertise involved in understanding a new regulation, determining which products it applies to, interpreting what it means, and translating it into something an engineer can actually use. That work spans regulatory teams, subject-matter experts, legal teams, engineers, and many other people across an organization. Daptic brings that work together in one platform. We help companies continuously monitor regulatory changes, understand which changes apply to their products, collaborate on interpretation, preserve the knowledge of their experts, and translate regulations into actionable product requirements. The bigger opportunity is bringing that intelligence into product development much earlier. When teams understand the regulatory landscape from the beginning, they can make smarter design decisions, streamline development, and get products to market faster. What inspired the start of Daptic? My background is in computer science and mechanical engineering at MIT, after which I spent time in consulting. At MIT, I was building complex products that involved many types of regulations. While consulting, I worked with some of the largest manufacturers to speed up product development. This gave me a close look at the role regulation plays in developing physical products. What really stood out to me was the connection between regulation and engineering. There is so much valuable expertise inside these companies, and the process of turning that expertise into concrete product requirements creates an opportunity to make product development much more connected. That became the idea behind Daptic. We believed product compliance could become an active input into how products are designed from the very beginning. When engineers and product teams have that information earlier, it can help them make better decisions about what to build and how to bring it to market. That was the opportunity that really excited me, and it still does today. How is Daptic different? Daptic is focused specifically on product compliance and the point where regulation becomes an engineering requirement. That gives us a very different role from traditional compliance or engineering software. We bring the regulatory workflow together, from continuously monitoring changes and determining applicability to bringing experts into the conversation, preserving their interpretations, and translating that knowledge into requirements that product teams can use. We think of this emerging category as Product Compliance Lifecycle Management. The idea is to connect regulatory intelligence with the full lifecycle of a physical product, starting with understanding which regulations apply and carrying that intelligence into the decisions teams make as they design, develop, test, certify, launch, and maintain products. Human expertise is central to that process. Regulations have nuance, and some of the most important product decisions come from understanding how a requirement applies to a specific product and market. AI can accelerate a tremendous amount of the work, while Daptic gives companies a way to capture, organize, and scale the judgment of their experts. Ultimately, we’re creating a shared system where regulatory, engineering, legal, and product teams can work from the same intelligence throughout the product lifecycle. What market does Daptic target and how big is it? We focus on companies that design, manufacture and sell regulated physical products. That spans industries including automotive and mobility, aerospace and defense, electronics, robotics and physical AI, consumer products, medical devices, and industrial manufacturing. The opportunity also extends across the value chain, from OEMs and suppliers to retailers with regulatory responsibility for products sold under their own brands. What makes the market so exciting is how broadly this work exists. Every company building a regulated physical product needs to understand which regulations apply and translate them into decisions about the product itself. We see an opportunity to give that work a much more connected home inside the enterprise and establish product compliance as a core part of how companies develop and launch physical products. What’s your business model? We’re an enterprise software company with a modular platform that can grow with our customers. We typically begin with a focused use case across certain markets, products or regulatory areas. From there, customers can bring more products, teams, markets, and regulatory workflows into the platform. That expansion fits naturally with how the work happens. A single regulatory decision can involve regulatory specialists, engineers, legal teams, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders across an organization. Daptic gives all of those teams a shared place to work together. As we grow, we see the platform becoming increasingly embedded throughout product development, bringing regulatory intelligence and requirements closer to the decisions companies make as they design, develop, test, and launch products. How are you preparing for a potential economic slowdown? We’re focused on building a company and a product that delivers clear value in any economic environment. For our customers, Daptic can help teams use their expertise more effectively, make important product decisions earlier, streamline development, and accelerate the path to market. Those are meaningful outcomes for companies that are focused on making every investment in product development count. We take a similarly thoughtful approach inside Daptic. We’re deliberate about how we grow the team and where we invest, and this funding gives us the ability to continue building with focus. Our priority is putting resources behind the product, our customers, and the opportunities where we see the greatest potential to create long-term value. What was the funding process like? We were fortunate to have a lot of strong interest in the round. What I really enjoyed was seeing how quickly the opportunity clicked as we walked investors through how regulatory intelligence can shape the way physical products are developed. The conversations gave us a chance to share both what customers are using Daptic for today and the much larger vision for where we believe the company can go. We ended the process with a great group of investors around the table, with Canvas leading the round, and we’re really excited to build this next stage of Daptic with them. What are the biggest challenges that you faced while raising capital? One of the most interesting parts of the process was articulating the scale of a category that did not exist before Daptic. Product regulatory work exists across virtually every company building regulated physical products, although it can live in different parts of the organization depending on the company. Once we could show investors how that work happens today and how deeply it influences product development, the opportunity became very tangible. Fundraising pushed us to get even sharper about explaining the connection between what Daptic delivers for customers today and the company we have the opportunity to build over the long term. I think that clarity made for some really productive conversations throughout the process. What factors about your business led your investors to write the check? I think what really resonated was the combination of the value we’re creating for customers (including the number of large F200 actively using the platform today) and the scale of the opportunity ahead. Companies that build physical products dedicate significant time and expertise to understanding regulations and translating them into product decisions. Daptic gives that work a shared system and makes regulatory intelligence much more useful across regulatory, engineering, legal, and product teams. We believe product compliance can become a core input into how physical products are designed and developed from day one. That combination of immediate customer value and a much larger long-term vision is something our investors were excited about. What are the milestones you plan to achieve in the next six months? Our focus is on continuing to build the product, grow with our customers, and bring Daptic deeper into the product-development process. We want to expand the ways customers can use regulatory intelligence across their organizations, whether that means supporting more products, more teams, more markets, or more of the decisions that happen during development. We’re also continuing to invest thoughtfully in the team as we grow. The broader milestone for us is showing what becomes possible when product compliance is treated as a core part of product development. Every step we take toward making that a standard way of building physical products is meaningful progress for Daptic. What advice can you offer companies in New York that do not have a fresh injection of capital in the bank? Stay extremely close to your customers and get very clear about the problem they value you for solving. Some of the most valuable work we’ve done at Daptic has come from listening closely to customers and understanding where we can have the greatest impact. In enterprise software, there are always opportunities to expand into adjacent areas. Having a clear view of your core product helps you decide which opportunities strengthen what you’re building and where your resources will have the most impact. Focus creates a lot of leverage. Know what your customers consider essential, become exceptional at solving that problem, and make every dollar you invest strengthen that advantage. Where do you see the company going now over the near term? Near term, we want to deepen Daptic’s role in the product-development process and continue building out what we see as a new category, Product Compliance Lifecycle Management. This means starting with an idea for a new physical product and immediately understanding the regulations that apply across the markets where you want to sell it. As that product takes shape, the same intelligence can inform requirements, design decisions, testing, certification, launch, and how the product evolves once it is in the market. That’s where we believe Product Compliance Lifecycle Management can go. It creates a continuous connection between regulation and the product itself, from the earliest design decisions through the full life of that product. Our vision is for Daptic to become the system companies use to manage that lifecycle and make regulatory intelligence a core input into building and bringing physical products to market.
