Sebi working towards balanced derivatives market: Tuhin Kanta Pandey

"We would like to develop the market in a more positive sense rather than just doing something which will unnecessarily disrupt it," Pandey said at an event.

He further said, "Derivatives market is very important and it is a link between cash and futures. We have various kinds of derivatives. And so, we can't really brush aside and say that derivative has one product. I think the problems that we have faced are particularly relating to index options which are short-dated around the period of expiry."

Separately, the Sebi chairman declined to comment on the dispute between Noel Tata-led Tata Trusts and the N Chandrasekaran-led Tata Sons board over Chandrasekaran's reappointment as chairman of the group holding company, shareholder rights of Trusts and the prospect of a Tata Sons listing.
