Russia, Ukraine launch overnight strikes

Russia and Ukraine launched a torrent of aerial strikes overnight that suggested any prospect of peace — touted by the White House — was a long way off.
The Kremlin’s barrage hit a bridge and ambulance station, while Kyiv reportedly fired upwards of 600 drones on the Moscow region alone.
The attacks came soon after US President Donald Trump said the countries were “the closest we’ve been” to agreeing a truce, though critics warn he is simply pressuring Ukraine to capitulate.
Indeed, Moscow appears increasingly confident, with a longtime chronicler of Russian President Vladimir Putin writing in The Washington Post that the “Kremlin is counting the Trump administration’s latest turn against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a major triumph.”
