US offers visa to Brazil's Flávio Bolsonaro as he flees corruption charges

The White House offered a visa to Flávio Bolsonaro, Semafor first reported Tuesday, as the Donald Trump ally reportedly fled to the US to evade corruption charges following his defeat in Brazil’s presidential election.
Bolsonaro’s loss comes as the Trump administration’s “Donroe Doctrine” to reassert hegemony over Latin America is being tested elsewhere: The US is charting a path toward Venezuelan elections, but the return of the country’s popular opposition leader could complicate that process, analysts noted, risking hardliner backlash.
Meanwhile, in its push to topple Cuba’s communist regime, Washington issued an unusual plea for Cubans to work with the CIA. Following the setback in Brazil, “the White House may need to focus more on damage control,” a Reuters columnist argued.
