DATA PROTECTION Storage News Ticker - 8 October Arcserve says a successful backup confirms that data was copied. It doesn't confirm that the copy is clean, or that a restore has been tested against its target. The new Arcserve Ransomware Protection and Recovery Suites are built to close that gap. They protect backup data, validate recoverability, and automate recovery with less operational complexity. - Arcserve Ransomware Protection and Recovery Suite – Core: Arcserve UDP Premium plus Arcserve Cloud Cyber Resilient Storage. AI-driven anomaly detection and encryption recognition flag mass encryption and bulk deletion inside recovery points before a restore decision is made. Immutable cloud storage holds an offsite copy with retention locks. Automated recovery testing measures restores against recovery point and recovery time objectives. - Arcserve Ransomware Protection and Recovery Suite – Pro: Includes all Core capabilities, plus Arcserve Disaster Recovery Runbooks, which deploy just-in-time temporary cloud resources and test hands-free on a schedule, surfacing configuration issues before an incident. It also adds the Rapid Ransomware Response Service: an Arcserve Technical Incident Commander takes ownership of the case within 30 minutes of a breach report, 24x7x365, and runs a full backup integrity audit to identify the last known clean recovery point. - Pricing: Both tiers cost less than buying the included products and services separately. - Upgrades: Existing UDP customers can upgrade without changing their UDP configuration. CrashPlan Windows and Linux Server Backup and CrashPlan Backup for Google Workspace are generally available now, each with a 14-day free trial. … Cloud file services and data manager CTERA announced CTERA Forward Deployed Engineering, a new service that embeds CTERA engineers within customer teams to bring AI use cases into production using organizations’ own unstructured data. The service helps enterprises prepare governed data, build AI workflows around existing business processes and develop the skills to independently operate and extend those workflows. Small, dedicated teams, pairing a Forward Deployed Engineer and Deployment Strategist, work as part of the customer’s project teams, with access to the environments and to the subject-matter experts who know how work actually gets done in an organization. Engagements follow a phased approach with discovery and data grounding, a first production use case, scaling across additional workflows, and handover for independent operation. … There will be a Future of Memory and Storage Europe conference event in the RAI center, Amsterdam on 19-20 October 2027. The organisers say they’re building a dedicated meeting place for the European memory and storage community, covering everything from HBM, CXL and NVMe through to the technologies underpinning the next generation of AI, cloud and high-performance computing. They hope to see 1,500+ attendees, 150+ speakers and 60+ exhibitors. Details include certification covers VSP One B20, validating authentication, encryption and trusted communications. The wider platform combines immutable data protection with ransomware detection. … Percona announced Valkey-proxy, a new open source project that helps enterprises adopt Valkey and migrate from Redis. Valkey is a high-performance, in-memory key-value data store used for caching and for database workloads. Valkey-proxy sits between the application and Valkey instances, manages communication between them, and presents a cluster to the application as if it were a single standalone deployment. It also pools backend connections, so connection counts stay bounded as applications scale. Commercial Redis offerings use a similar approach, but Valkey-proxy is fully open source. That matters for organizations concerned about vendor lock-in or about data and digital sovereignty. The code will be published in mid-October under the BSD-3-Clause license, followed by a public feedback and testing period, with general availability targeted for early 2027. Sharon AI, for example, signed a five-year deal to run up to 150,000 GPUs on Rafay. compute-first. The tenant carving extends to storage, though as an orchestrator rather than a storage system. Rafay doesn't replace the storage layer. It plugs into what the operator already runs (DDN, WEKA, VAST, Dell PowerStore and others) and handles the storage side of each tenant automatically. When a neocloud spins up a new customer, Rafay sets up that tenant's GPUs, network and storage together, keeps each tenant's storage isolated from the others, and applies quotas and access controls. That way storage gets carved up per tenant in the same workflow as compute, rather than being a separate manual job for the storage team. Rafay says operators want tenant isolation and automation across the whole stack. Storage platforms are adding multi-tenancy, but something still has to tie the storage tenant to the compute tenant, the billing and the customer's self-service portal. That's the layer it sits in. It's now had three successive quarters of booming revenues and the full year revenue number will likely exceed ₩700 trillion ($521 billion), a more than 100% increase Y/Y. AI GPU server demand for HBM and DRAM was most probably the main driver of the rise. Full results should be released at the end of October. … HA and DR supplier SIOS Technology appointed of Charlie Mantione as Head of Sales, Americas and promoted Director of Marketing Natalia Casey to head global marketing. Mantione has previous sales and marketing experience at NCR, Cushman & Wakefield, Avaya, Dimension Data, and AT&T. … Archive software and tape library systems vendor Spectra Logic announced a distribution partnership with ICOS S.p.A., a value-added distributor specializing in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity solutions in Italy. The agreement expands Spectra Logic’s presence in the Italian market and enables ICOS to offer Spectra’s data storage and management solutions to its network of channel partners. … UnicornIQ today announced GA of its flagship product, Vera, “the Verified Intelligence Platform that makes AI tell the truth. … Vera cleans a company’s unstructured data (the documents, slide decks, chats and emails where most knowledge actually lives), before any AI uses it. These stale assets are often riddled with dirty data, but Vera pulls out each individual claim, checks it against everything else within the company knowledge base, and resolves conflicts or outdated facts up front. The result is AI that answers from verified knowledge, with sources anyone can check, used as an operational backbone.” Vera is aimed at sales reps and UnicornIQ says “Clean data is premium fuel for reps and partner teams to close complex deals, and Vera is the hypercar that gets across the finish line faster.” Read a frontier lab case study here. … SW RAID supplier Xinnor has released xiRAID Classic v4.4.1, introducing discard support designed to help read-intensive NVMe SSDs maintain more consistent write performance over time. The new capability allows discard information to flow from the file system through the RAID layer to compatible NVMe drives, helping them manage available flash more efficiently and reduce unnecessary garbage-collection overhead. The release is particularly relevant for high-capacity NVMe infrastructure used in HPC file systems, virtualized and containerized environments, databases, and backup repositories. … Xsight Labs, which produces an E1 800G DPU used by Hammerspace, announced its E1L, the next member of its E-Series DPU line. It's a fully programmable DPU with up to 200G of networking that starts at 25 watts TDP, built for edge, embedded and other power-constrained systems, and it runs the same software as the 800G E1. The SPDK is standard Linux and there is line-rate AES-XTS storage encryption, at a power budget that fits a storage appliance built around a fixed power supply. In many E1 deployments the DPU is the host, and Xsight expects that to be even more common with the E1L …
