DATA MANAGEMENT A quantum of data assessment and autonomous management Quantum’s Autonomous Data Management (ADM) can assess data placement across a storage estate and suggest optimizations to improve data storage cost, safety, and performance. Data is stored on flash, disk and tape media on-premises and in the public cloud, Flash, primary storage, is fast and, now, 6.5 times more expensive than slower disk, which itself is many times more expensive than tape, with its long access time latency and high streaming performance. In the present time, with SSD shortages, extended delivery delays and increasing cost relative to disk, it is becoming more important to have data placed on the appropriate tier for its access importance; immediate, intermediate, and low. Customers can see what data exists, how it is being used, and where potential cost, risk, and compliance challenges may exist. Quantum CEO Hugues Meyrath said: “Customers are looking for ways to navigate budget restraints, reduce risk, make better use of their data, and manage the growing storage demands created by AI and analytics. Quantum Autonomous Data Management gives them the visibility and intelligent automation they need to understand what data exists, determine where it belongs, and continuously optimize how it is managed. As organizations collect, retain, and analyze more data than ever before, ensuring the right data resides on the right storage tier creates meaningful advantages in cost, security, operational efficiency, and AI readiness.” The company has its its own flash, disk and tape offerings but ADM, developed with partner help is agnostic to storage suppliers. The ADM process begins with a free assessment and analysis of data across the enterprise. This gives organizations visibility into inactive, duplicated, outdated, orphaned, and risk-sensitive data, enabling informed decisions about what should remain on primary storage, what can be archived or deleted, and what requires additional protection or governance. Quantum suggests that, by identifying which data delivers business value and which data creates unnecessary cost, organizations can better prepare their data environments for AI, analytics, and future developments. Customers can improve storage efficiency, reclaim expensive primary storage capacity, reduce infrastructure and backup costs, lower power consumption, and improve operational control. Once configured, ADM will continuously operate in the background, applying intelligent automation to optimize data placement and management according to business, compliance, security, and retention requirements -policies. ADM is now available. Data sovereignty support is on the product roadmap. Comment With product presence in primary, secondary and tertiary storage tiers, Quantum is a natural supplier of hierarchical storage management (HSM) software and ADM marks its entry into this market. We understand that it is priced lower then competing offerings and can offer worthwhile storage efficiency improvements to a wide range of enterprise sizes, not just larger ones. Quantum sales will now be able to offer this extra ADM offering to existing customers and go call on new ones whom they have previously left alone to competitors such as Datadobi, Diskover, Komprise and others.
