'Trying to survive during impossible times'

Elsinore, directed by Simon Stone.
The film follows the final years in the life of Ian Charleson, a Scottish actor who starred in the Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire. It picks up in 1989, after Charleson, played by Andrew Scott, faces an AIDS diagnosis while trying to revive his career. When he finally lands a prominent role again, a lesion appears on his face.
The movie is “devastating” but gives viewers “a glimpse of a nuanced, non-monolithic community trying to survive during impossible times, joking and dancing and hopelessly hoping for sunnier days,” The Guardian wrote. Elsinore will be released in the US on Nov. 20 and in the UK on Jan. 29. Sign up to be alerted.
