Build an AI Tool, Land a Job: Data Center Operator Launches Hiring Contest The winner of DataVita’s OpenClaw Challenge will receive a permanent AI data center role and £35,000 starting salary. A Scottish data center operator is replacing resumes with an AI building competition, with the winner receiving a permanent role on the company’s AI Solutions team and a £35,000 ($48,000) starting salary. There is no traditional application process, no cover letter, and no prior experience requirement. Instead, entrants will be judged on originality, technical thinking, business value, security, and communication. OpenClaw Challenge DataVita’s OpenClaw Challenge asks applicants to build a working AI product using Anthropic’s open source OpenClaw agent. Entrants are free to build any type of AI tool, provided they can demonstrate the relevance of the problem they are solving. “We are completely open to ideas,” Danny Quinn, managing director of DataVita, told Data Center Knowledge. “If the candidates can prove the relevance of the challenge they’re looking to solve and then build a tool that delivers a solution, they have as good a chance as anyone of securing the role.” ‘What Someone Can Build Tells Us More’ Founded in 2014, DataVita operates two Tier III data centers in Scotland and is currently building a new 24 MW facility through a partnership with CoreWeave. For Quinn, the initiative reflects how AI is changing how technical talent is assessed. “A CV and experience only tell you so much,” Quinn told Data Center Knowledge. “Asking someone to build an AI tool will show you their ability to identify a problem, the logic behind their thinking, and how they go about creating a solution. That is much more valuable than knowing what they have worked on in the past.” He added that the aim is to surface self-taught talent that traditional hiring processes may overlook. Submission Details OpenClaw Challenge submissions close on May 26, with finalists announced in June. The competition is open to UK residents aged 18 or over living within commuting distance of DataVita’s offices in central Scotland. Applicants can find out more and apply via the company’s website.
