An anti-data center bus tour traversing key midterm states will add another complication for Republican candidates in tight races who are trying to navigate Trump’s support of the AI infrastructure with growing voter opposition — and it’s being spearheaded by a Georgia RNC member. The “AI Data Center Revolt” bus tour is organized by Humans First, a group focused on risks of AI; Its chair is Amy Kremer, a pro-Trump political activist who is listed as a Georgia RNC committeewoman. Kremer, who helped organize the rally prior to the Jan. 6 riot, has been vocal about the dangers of AI: she signed onto a letter in May urging Trump to vet models before their release. The bus tour is slated to stop in Texas, Ohio, Iowa, Georgia, and North Carolina — states seen as crucial for Republicans to maintain Senate control in November. They’re also homes to live data center debates: Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee in Texas, unveiled his data center plan last month, and North Carolina GOP Senate candidate Michael Whatley has faced backlash over his comments on the topic. Notably, the bus tour is launching at this week’s Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas — coinciding with Trump’s trip there. In a statement to Semafor, Kremer described herself as a stalwart supporter of Trump regardless of her data center opposition. “Unlike the the data center cheerleaders, I was one of the earliest and most outspoken supporters of President Trump and I remain supportive of him and his agenda,” she said. “While big tech was deplatforming the president, I was leading the effort to fight the stolen election in 2020.” “I will put my pro-Trump credentials up against the tech bros any day of the week,” she continued. “Additionally, decisions about the construction of data centers are local ones not made by the White House or Congress — and that’s exactly how it should be.”
