MakeMyTrip posted a net profit of $1.8 Mn in Q2 FY27 against a loss of $5.7 Mn a year earlier, while revenue rose 2.5% to $235.2 Mn Strong domestic travel demand supported growth, while a weaker rupee and higher airfares weighed on international long-haul travel and the company’s reported dollar revenue Bus ticketing revenue grew 16.6%, offsetting declines in air ticketing and hotels and packages revenue Nasdaq-listed online travel major MakeMyTrip swung to a consolidated net profit of $1.8 Mn in the September quarter of FY27 from a loss of $5.7 Mn a year earlier, helped by higher operating profit and lower net finance costs. Revenue rose 2.5% to $235.2 Mn from $229.3 Mn in Q2 FY26. On a constant currency basis, which excludes the impact of exchange rate movements, revenue grew 11.2%. The company said the rupee depreciated approximately 10% against the dollar compared with the year-ago quarter, weighing on its reported revenue and growth rates. Meanwhile, international long-haul outbound travel from India continued to remain subdued as elevated fuel prices pushed up airfares and a weaker rupee increased the overall cost of overseas trips. Domestic travel demand partially offset these pressures, the company said. Operationally, the company’s gross bookings increased 11.3% YoY to $2.72 Bn during the quarter. Hotels and packages remained MakeMyTrip’s largest revenue contributor, bringing in $107.1 Mn in Q2 FY27, down 1% from $108.2 Mn a year earlier. The segment includes customer inducement costs of $50.7 Mn in the quarter under review. Meanwhile, bus ticketing revenue climbed 16.6% to $39.1 Mn from $33.5 Mn. A 24.7% increase in the number of bus tickets drove gross bookings in the segment up 20% to $435.3 Mn. The “others” segment, which MMT said was led by ancillary services and car bookings, posted revenue of $32.3 Mn, up 21.6% YoY. On the expense front, MMT said that its service cost fell 4.6% to $49.2 Mn from $51.5 Mn a year ago, on the back of rupee weakening against the dollar. Strong demand for its car booking business in India partly offset the decline. Personnel expenses dropped 4.9% to $38.4 Mn from $40.4 Mn, again largely due to the weaker rupee, along with lower share-based compensation costs. Annual wage hikes in the June quarter partly offset the fall, the company added. Marketing and sales promotion expenses rose 2.6% to $38.9 Mn from $37.9 Mn, driven by higher variable costs and discretionary spends such as events and brand-building. Separately, customer inducement costs, which MMT records as a reduction of revenue, rose to $108.9 Mn from $89.1 Mn.
