Datadobi skewers invalid unstructured data access with a DAGger Datadobi has announced StorageMAPS’ Data Access Governance (DAG) to show who has access to unstructured data and whether they should. StorageMAP provides a detailed view of a customer’s unstructured data estate and enables the optimization of its placement across different stortage tiers. Datadobi says organizations cannot govern, protect, or extract value from data they cannot see or control. DAG gives admins visibility into access permissions across fragmented unstructured data environments and reveals who has access to what data, and whether their access aligns with business and security policy. Michael Jack, Datadobi’s Co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer, said: “Unstructured data is at the center of every major enterprise challenge right now including AI readiness, cyber resilience, cost management, and regulatory compliance. But organizations cannot address any of those challenges with data they cannot see or control. Data Access Governance gives teams the visibility to understand who has access to what, identify where risk exists, and take action to bring their unstructured data under control.” Organizations can experience access drift as users gradually get access to data they don’t need or shouldn’t see, or inherit generalized access when they onboard. Wth trillions of data items and thousands of users inside large enterprises, manually checking and managing the exposure to invalid individual data access policies is an impossibility. It has to be automated so that admins can see, hopefully at a glance, who has invalid access to what data. A next step could be to automate this further and have AI run the checks for you; agentic DAG if you will. DAG was trialed by beta customers and supports a range of enterprise use cases, from protecting sensitive data and reducing breach impact, to maintaining records compliance and managing risk through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. It identifies overexposed data and validates access controls to strengthen a customer’s security posture. For those subject to data protection regulations (such as GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI DSS), it delivers the visibility needed to demonstrate that access controls are in place, operating as intended, and aligned with business policy. A Datadobi blog provides background about understanding data access management. Bootnote This is about user entitlement to access data as opposed to which users actually accessed and changed data. Komprise, Arcitecta and Hammerspace can also provide information about who has access to what data. Aswe understand it, Komprise is strong on entitlement plus usage metadata, Arcitecta can provide more information about who accessed what, while Hammerspace enforces and carries permissions globally, and has a global audit of file-system operations. You'll need to do detailed point-by-point comparisons to find out which supplier best meets your use case.
