Zerodha’s Nithin Kamath asks traders: What are you building with Kite's free APIs and AI? - Edited bySwapnil Deshpande - Published OnOct 26, 2026 | 23:51 IST - Last Updated OnOct 26, 2026 | 23:51 IST AI-powered coding tools are lowering the technical barriers to building customised trading applications. Zerodha's Kite APIs can help retail investors connect these tools to their trading accounts, opening up possibilities for stock screeners, portfolio trackers and automated strategies, while also raising the importance of testing code and managing execution risks. Zerodha founder and CEO Nithin Kamath has flagged growing use of the brokerage’s free Kite APIs as AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex make it easier for retail traders to build their own trading applications, even with limited programming experience. In a post on X on Monday, Kamath asked traders and investors to share what they had built using the APIs and AI agents. “AI coding agents like Claude Code and Codex have made it much easier for traders and investors to build their own tools, even without much coding experience,” Kamath wrote. He added that Zerodha was seeing increased use of its Kite APIs as more people began experimenting with these tools. Kite APIs allow users to connect their own applications to Zerodha’s trading platform. Depending on the API and permissions used, these connections can help users access market information, track portfolios and place orders. Traders have been exploring ways to automate routine tasks and build customised applications around their trading strategies. These include stock-screening tools, portfolio trackers, trading dashboards and applications that execute orders based on predefined conditions. AI coding agents can help users develop such applications by generating code, fixing errors and assisting with technical tasks. This reduces the need for extensive programming knowledge, although users still need to understand how their applications work and test them before using them for live trading. The development highlights how AI tools and brokerage APIs could change the way individual investors access trading technology. Applications that once required dedicated developers can now be built with AI assistance, potentially making customised trading systems more accessible to retail traders. However, automated trading also carries risks. Incorrect code, faulty trading signals or poorly configured order systems can lead to unintended transactions and financial losses. Users must also ensure that their applications comply with Zerodha’s API terms and applicable market regulations.
