That question feels particularly relevant today, with global bond yields at new highs, fiscal concerns clouding sentiment and foreign investors pulling money out of Indian equities. At the same time, massive investments in AI, data centres and tech infrastructure are creating new investment themes. The bigger question is what is driving these shifts and how big investors are responding. The theme will be in the spotlight at the ET Alpha Wealth Summit 2.0: The Great Reallocation on October 8 in Mumbai, where market veterans will unpack the risks and opportunities reshaping global markets. Where is global capital heading next? Interest rates, economic growth, currencies, valuations and geopolitical risks can all influence investment decisions. As these factors change, institutions and family offices reassess where they want to put their money. The Global Capital Flows keynote with Nilesh Shah, Group President and Managing Director, Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, will examine where institutional investors, family offices and long-term capital are finding opportunities, and which investment trends could become more important in the years ahead. But how is smart money actually being invested? Spotting a big trend is only the first step. Someone still has to decide where to put the money. Investments by family offices and institutional investors are no longer limited to listed equities or traditional bonds. Their search for returns increasingly takes them into areas such as private credit, venture debt, co-investments and alternative strategies. These avenues can offer opportunities that public markets may not. But they can also come with longer holding periods, lower liquidity and more complex risks. The Following Smart Money panel at the ET Alpha Wealth Summit 2.0 will explore how HNIs are approaching these opportunities and seeking differentiated sources of alpha. The panel will bring together Ashish Shanker, Managing Director and CEO, Motilal Oswal Wealth; Pranob Gupta, Managing Director, Lighthouse Canton; Rahul Jain, President & Head, Nuvama Wealth Management; Ashish Khandelia, Founder, Certus Capital; and Sandeep Das, MD and CEO, Centrum Wealth Ltd. What can individual investors learn? Following smart money does not mean copying every move made by a family office or institution. Their investment horizons, access to opportunities and ability to take risks can be very different from those of individual investors. What can be useful is understanding the thinking behind their decisions. Why is capital moving into a particular asset? What has changed in the risk-reward equation? And what could go wrong? That is where the two conversations come together. The first looks at where capital could be heading. The second explores how sophisticated investors are turning those shifts into investment decisions. Join the conversation at the ET Alpha Wealth Summit 2.0at ITC Maratha, Mumbai, on October 8.
