Zotac denies warranty support to RTX 3060 owner in India after just one year despite offering three years of coverage — company says GPU’s 2023 import date takes precedence over purchase date Another Zotac warranty dispute emerges. A Zotac RTX 3060 owner in India has been denied warranty support, even though their card would still seem to be covered. According to Reddit user u/AbhishekG9, they purchased a Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 Twin Edge from KVR Gaming System in Nehru Place, Delhi, on June 27, 2025. Zotac offers three years of standard warranty in India for RTX 30-series and later cards. That can be extended by two years in exchange for registering the product. The customer received an invoice and registered the graphics card with Zotac, for which an automatically generated registration confirmation was received on July 2, 2025. However, when the customer reached out to Zotac for warranty support for an unspecified reason, the company reportedly told them that the graphics card was already out of warranty. According to an email from Zotac, the card's serial number showed an import date of April 2023. The company explained that warranty coverage can be determined using the original purchase date or the distributor's import date, and that product registration by itself does not establish warranty coverage. At least in this instance, Zotac asserts that if one of its products is sold more than two years after it was imported, the company cannot provide extended warranty support. Since the graphics card was purchased by the customer in June 2025, the company advised them to approach the original seller for further assistance. The customer argues that the distributor's original import date is not something an ordinary buyer would necessarily know when making a purchase. They also pointed out that they registered the product within days of purchase and received confirmation from Zotac. Other users on the Reddit thread suggest that Zotac's policy isn't necessarily unreasonable. By tying the start of the warranty period to the date of import, plus an additional buffer period to allow the product to be sold, the policy would seem to prevent retailers from arbitrarily changing the date of sale in their records to make a product that would otherwise be out of warranty appear to be covered. If this particular card sat in retail inventory for an unusually long time (two years, in this instance), it's possible that initial buffer period was exhausted and that the clock began running down on the actual legal warranty period, regardless of the buyer's date of purchase. But this could all be explained more clearly. If we take a look at the warranty terms and conditions on Zotac India’s website, it indeed mentions that the duration of warranty starts from the product's original date of purchase or the distributor import/invoice date. However, the policy does not explicitly specify a period in which the purchase date is used before the import date can become relevant, and that opaque reasoning appears to be the issue here. The RTX 3060 owner told Tom’s Hardware that they plan to visit the shop where the graphics card was purchased and ask it to arrange a replacement. They also plan to record the visit as proof and, if the issue remains unresolved, file a complaint with India’s National Consumer Helpline. Back in December 2025, an RTX 5070 Ti owner’s RMA was denied after Zotac said it had found an “irreversible” crack in the PCB near the PCIe connector. The company attributed the damage to external mechanical stress and suggested that the customer file a claim with the shipping carrier. Zotac later offered to dispose of the graphics card at its facility if the customer did not want it returned. The warranty should really only kick in once the item is sold to consumer. I mean it's not like the GPU was in use or had been used, it was boxed and new. Including the time that the GPU is in it's original packing and not being used, is a bit of a joke.Reply - BillyBuerger I've seen this myself in some sense when buying laptops from MicroCenter. It's all been Lenovo laptops and ones that are usually a bit on the older side as they are more reasonably priced. It's not unusual that after purchasing and registering the laptop with Lenovo to extend the warranty from 1 year basic to a 3 year on-site, it will indicate that the warranty is already a few months in. So in these cases, it seems the warranty started from when MicroCenter imported the laptops and not when I purchased from them.Reply That said, I've never had one where the original warranty was already expired. And when registering it, it would show that. The fact that Zotac did not indicate to this customer that it was already expired was shady. But it's also on the seller as they should be aware and make sure their customers know if a product they are selling is already out of warranty. - artk2219 Reply Unfortunately Zotac is not alone in doing this, Asus has pulled this crap with me on multiple occasions on things that i bought direct from microcenter. It sucks, and its a fight that you shouldn't have to have to get the warranty service that comes with the product. I know it definitely bodes well for the warranty service on this PC that they are offering.Roland Of Gilead said:That's kinda sickening if I'm honest. And some of the language used is purposely misleading or difficult to decipher so that they can duck situations precisely like this one.Reply I'd say this is less about Zotac, although it's a pretty crappy look for them, and more the industry standard at this point. - derekullo As the company motto goes ...Reply Nobody RMA's The Zotac!https://i0.wp.com/midwestfilmjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/You-Dont-Mess-with-the-Zohan.jpg?fit=1400%2C700&ssl=1 - PEnns So, by this crooked logic, it is possible then that one could buy a brand new GPU that's already out of warranty!Reply Should one sue the retailer (for selling an item that's already out of warranty)? Or Zotac for having this carpy sneaky loophole to get out of honoring the full warranty period? Or both miscreants?? I'd would haul both into a small claims court if this happened to me (in the US)!! - Bigshrimp Schrödinger's Warranty. Expect this everywhere on all electronics. I am sure people have been noticing a higher amount of news articles where companies are denying warranties for all kinds of disingenuous reasons.Reply I saw one article recently where a 5090 wasn't warrantied after burnout because the company claimed that it was that he used the cable from the PSU instead of the adapter that came with the card. - S58_is_the_goat If a company tries to screw me with warranty repair I screw them back by buying the exact same product and then doing a switcharoo and returning the old broken product and saying it doesn't work, I make sure I transfer the serial number over and anyone checking at the store can't tell the difference.Reply I haven't had to do this with gpus but I did do it with a hard drive that was past wd's 3 year warranty based on the serial number but not past the 3 year warranty by the purchase date. I had a few Lexar usb drives fail and was told to ship it internationally by FedEx, the cost was more than the usb drive was worth, shipping by mail was cheaper but they didn't accept that for some reason, and i did the same. Corsair also tried to screw me by not accepting an rma for a 32gb ddr4 kit failing memtest86 a second time, first set they replaced and it worked for a few months, got a new set from a store and swapped them and it's been working for 5+ years, they blamed my mobo 🙄 This is how you get back at these shitty companies, if they have no morals then neither should you.
