Title: Upgrading the automated susceptibility reading and incubation system to the Sensititre™
ARIS HiQ to support the Vet-LIRN-directed antimicrobial resistance surveillance program
Project Abstract
This proposal seeks funding to support the University of Illinois Veterinary Diagnostic
Laboratory in upgrading its automated susceptibility reading and incubation system. The
laboratory has participated in the Vet-LIRN-directed antimicrobial resistance surveillance
program and in investigations of animal food-related illnesses since 2018. It currently serves
as one of the core source laboratories for the Vet-LIRN program. Annually, the laboratory
provides approximately 200 bacterial isolates along with associated antimicrobial susceptibility
testing (AST) data generated using the Sensititre™ ARIS 2X system. This system has also
been applied in producing AST results for significant pathogens identified during pet food-
related illness investigations requested by the program. However, service and maintenance
support for the ARIS 2X system became unavailable after December 2025. To ensure
continuity and maintain the quality and accuracy of AST data, the laboratory proposes to
upgrade to the Sensititre™ ARIS HiQ system. Funding will support the acquisition of this
equipment, enabling continued contributions to Vet-LIRN while advancing antimicrobial
stewardship and supporting One Health initiatives.document fetched 2026-10-04 02:43
