Ex-hurricane to bring warm weather to the UK this week - Published The remnants of Hurricane Isaias, which hit the southern US on Saturday, is set to bring a warm spell to the UK this week. Close to record-breaking warm nights are possible, with Monday night temperatures for some parts of England possibly staying as high as 18C, not far off the country's October record of 18.6C (65.4F). Daytime temperatures will be above average for the time of year for many parts of the UK. Rain is likely at times across much of the UK, but will still fall below the amount required to help ease drought hit-parts of England. - Drought declared in Yorkshire after dry weather - Published2 days ago Mild start to the week North-westerly winds over the weekend meant it felt rather cool in many areas, but with southerly winds on Monday comes milder conditions to most parts. Temperatures will peak at 14 to 19 Celsius, slightly above the mid-October average of 12-16C. However, weather fronts tied in with the southerly winds mean that most areas will be cloudy with occasional spells of rain or drizzle. Sunshine will be fairly limited with areas around north-east Scotland, east Wales, the West Midlands and the north coast of Northern Ireland most favoured for some sunny breaks. A warm night will follow with temperatures only dropping a few degrees, but heavier bursts of rain are expected to develop through the night. Overnight rain will then sweep across the UK through Tuesday morning. In the sunnier weather that follows, temperatures are likely to hit the low 20s in southern and eastern counties of England, with 23C possible in parts of East Anglia. Windier midweek with another burst of warmth Clearer skies into Wednesday morning mean all should experience a cooler start to the day, but a sunnier one too. Cloud and strengthening winds will move into north-western parts during the afternoon, all linked to an area of low pressure passing between the UK and Iceland. which contains some of the remnants of ex-Hurricane Isaias. Isaias hit the Florida coast on Saturday as a Category 2 storm, before weakening rapidly over land. As the resulting area of low pressure moves out into the Atlantic this week it will merge with another area of low pressure coming out of Canada before sweeping towards Iceland by the end of Wednesday. Gales are expected for a time in the north-west of Scotland, and a narrow corridor of humid ex-tropical air will proceed an active cold front that will sweep a band of rain south-eastwards during Thursday and Thursday night. Before the rain arrives in south-east England we could once again see temperatures exceed 20C in many locations on Thursday. Following the passage of the wetter and windier weather, an area of high pressure will move in during Friday and this could hang around into the following week. This will bring in cooler air again, dropping temperatures back to where they should be for the time of year and introducing chillier nights again. High pressure also means rain amounts will be sparse which will be little comfort to those monitoring the ongoing drought. After a summer of extreme heat and little rain for most, some parts of the country have continued to experience below-average rainfall so far this autumn. While we are almost halfway through the season some parts of Yorkshire have seen less than 20% their normal autumn rainfall.
