Commvault looking after Claude agent configs Commvault is enabling IT and Security teams to discover, protect, and recover ChatGPT and agent configurations and other AI data in Anthropic's Claude Cowork and Claude Code, and OpenClaw. This offering is part of AgentRecover, Commvault’s offering for enterprise AI environment recoverability. Employees are running these agents on their Windows and macOS PCs and laptops. When a laptop pr PC is lost, damaged, replaced, or otherwise disrupted, organisations and employees – developers, marketers, and others – may not only lose files, but the agent configurations, accumulated AI context, and workflows they rely on. Commvault can restore that agent metadata. Pranay Ahlawat, Commvault’s Chief Technology and AI Officer, said: “Most organisations cannot tell you which AI agents are running on their employees’ machines, let alone recover the work inside them. We give IT and Security visibility into where these AI tools are installed, and a recovery path for the context employees have built inside them.” IT teams can identify instances of certain agentic AI tools installed across managed devices, protect agent configurations stored locally, and recover that protected information if a disruption occurs. Security teams can get a centralised view of supported AI tools installed across managed employee devices. If agentic AI tools are installed outside approved IT processes, teams can see where the tool is present and investigate. Commvault's competitors are looking at agent protection as well: - Cohesity Agent Resilience (CAR) protects agent memory and configuration and is a Cohesity Data Cloud capability, supporting Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and Bedrock Agents. It does not support the Anthropic agents or OpenClaw. - Druva provides Claude Backup under its AI Resilience / Endpoints offering. It backs up locally stored Claude Code and Cowork data on Windows and macOS: project files, sessions, tasks, prompts, notes, skills, plugins, connectors, settings, and configuration. Snapshots go to Druva’s air-gapped cloud; admins manage policy centrally. Claude.ai cloud chats are out of scope because they are not on the device. - Rubrik has its Rubrik Agent Cloud for Claude Code and Claude Cowork. It inventories agents, offers Agent Rewind to reverse unintended actions, keeps immutable off-repo snapshots of GitHub and Azure DevOps, and backs up and version-tracks agent configuration (system prompts, tool permissions, skills, settings) at organization, repository, and user levels, with drift detection. That is closer to agent governance and codebase recovery than laptop file backup. Veeam, with its recent focus on agentic AI cyber-threats will probably follow closely behind Cohesity, Commvault, Druva and Rubrik. Availability Discovery of OpenAI’s ChatGPT desktop app is available today. Discovery, protection, and recovery for supported local data associated with Claude Cowork, Claude Code, and OpenClaw will be generally available in the coming months. Customers can access these capabilities through Commvault’s existing endpoint protection offerings without a separate SKU or additional purchase. Support for additional AI tools is planned for future releases. Bootnote 1 Anthropic’s Claude Cowork is a knowledge work AI agent that can organize a folder, turn notes and screenshots into a spreadsheet, or draft a report from scattered sources, and is available for macOS and Windows systems. Claude Code is Anthropic’s agentic coding tool, which can read a codebase, edit files, run commands, and work with development tools to build features, fix bugs, and automate tasks, rather than only suggesting the next line of code. OpenClaw is a free, open-source autonomous and general personal or team AI agent you run on your own system. It connects a large language model to messaging apps and local tools so it can act on tasks, not only reply in a chat window. You talk to OpenClaw through channels such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Signal, iMessage, and others, or through a web UI, CLI, or companion apps. It keeps session state and memory on your hardware. Models are plug-ins: Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, or local models via Ollama and similar tools. Bootnote 2 Commvault has achieved the AWS Data Competency in the Relational Database category by delivering cyber-resilient data protection for relational database workloads on AWS, helping customers protect, recover, and manage business-critical data across Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) environment.
