Replit's Cloud Agents Let Non-Engineers Ship 250,000 Lines to Production Replit Cloud Agents let non-engineers submit tested pull requests to production codebases, with video evidence and engineer approval before merge. - Replit Cloud Agents now let non-engineers submit tested pull requests to company codebases on GitHub or GitLab. - Agents validate changes in isolated sandboxes and attach screenshots plus video evidence to each PR. - Replit's design team shipped 250k+ lines of code this way in six months, engineer-approved. - Self-improving workspace memory turns review feedback into reusable skills, cutting token usage 51% internally. - Shared environments let an admin configure the app once so any contributor can start from a running copy. - Available now for Pro and Enterprise; Slack integration is free, Microsoft Teams support coming soon. Replit has expanded Cloud Agents so designers, product managers, and support leads can request changes to production repositories in plain language. The agent locates the relevant code, edits it in an isolated cloud environment, tests the result, and submits a GitHub pull request or GitLab merge request with screenshots and video. Engineers retain final approval over what ships. The release extends Replit’s 2024 consumer coding agent into company codebases, where permissions, dependencies, review standards, and security controls make automation harder. Replit says its design team used the system to ship more than 250,000 lines of engineer-approved code during a six-month period. That figure establishes output volume, although Replit has not published defect rates, merge rates, or reviewer time. A pull request starts with plain English - Request: A contributor describes the desired change in Replit or contacts @Replit in Slack. - Discovery: The agent finds the relevant files and reads the repository’s contribution instructions. - Implementation: It edits the code in an isolated sandbox while displaying a live preview beside the chat. - Validation: The agent runs the application, opens it in a browser, and clicks through the affected flow. Failed checks trigger another edit-and-test cycle. - Review: The agent submits the change with screenshots and video showing the final behavior. GitHub calls the review package a pull request, while GitLab calls it a merge request. In both systems, engineers can inspect the diff, review the attached evidence, request revisions, run existing continuous-integration checks, and decide whether to merge. Slack can also serve as the starting point for an investigation that does not immediately produce code. Replit says Microsoft Teams support is planned. Review comments become reusable instructions Replit’s workspace memory turns selected review feedback into repository-specific instructions for future runs. When feedback should persist, the agent proposes an update to a “skill,” Replit’s term for written guidance that agents follow in a codebase. An engineer must approve the update before later tasks can use it. Replit reports that this memory layer reduced token usage by 51% and cut one recurring data task from 16 minutes to one minute without lowering output quality. The feature remains in early access, and the announcement does not provide sample sizes, workload definitions, or evaluation methods for those internal results. A shared VM removes local setup Shared environments give contributors a centrally configured workspace instead of requiring each person to run the application locally. A Cloud Agent inspects the codebase and prepares an initial virtual machine, while an administrator configures the environment for broader use. The resulting workspace includes repositories, language runtimes, dependencies, tools, and agent skills, and it updates from the main branch. Replit says the environments can run multiple languages, several repositories and services together, Docker images, databases, queues, and caches. Credentials pass through a broker connected to external secrets managers. Security teams evaluating the product will still need to define repository permissions, service access, secret scope, audit requirements, and mandatory checks before merge. Replit aims beyond prototype generation Replit groups the release under its Self-Driving Company strategy, which also includes a monitoring agent and a bring-your-own-cloud option for enterprise customers. The announced controls center on sandboxed execution, existing pull-request review, engineer-approved memory updates, and centrally managed environments. The product moves the first implementation pass closer to the employee who understands the problem. A designer can request a UI correction, a product manager can specify a workflow change, and a support lead can describe a recurring customer issue. Engineering remains responsible for reviewing the code and approving deployment. GitHub Copilot’s coding agent, Cursor’s background agents, and Cognition’s Devin can also generate pull requests autonomously. Replit’s stated focus is the subject-matter expert who can describe a change precisely but does not routinely work with Git, local development environments, or code review tools. Where the workflow fits Access, limits, and rollout checks Pro and Enterprise customers can start from Replit’s repository access page. A useful pilot should track merge rate, requested revisions, engineering review time, failed checks, escaped defects, and rollback frequency. Those measures will show whether the agents reduce implementation work or transfer it into a larger review queue.
