MongoDB CEO walks across to Meta MongoDB CEO and President Chiratan Desai, hired in November last year from being Cloudflare president, has quit to become Meta's Chief Platform Enterprise Officer, reporting to main Meta man Mark Zuckerberg. A Meta statement said: “We believe super-intelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses. Meta already serves billions of people at scale and helps hundreds of millions of businesses reach customers. Today we are starting the next major pillar of our business, Meta Enterprise Platform, to help businesses use AI to grow and transform in new ways as well." That's ambitious, coming from a company famous for consumer-focussed social media sites Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Whats App and Messenger. Desai said: "Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses. As with Muse, security and privacy are built into Meta’s enterprise products from the outset. Our goal is to make Meta the place enterprises come to scale their businesses. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to working with our customers along this journey." A previous MongoDB CEO, Dev Ittycheria, returns in the interim CEO slot while the board commences a formal search for a permanent successor. Ittycheria served as President and CEO of MongoDB from 2014 to 2025; an eleven-year tenure during which "MongoDB grew from an early-stage disruptor into a global technology leader, scaling from approximately $35 million to more than $2.3 billion in annual revenue." The company remains confident in the outlook for the business and is reaffirming its guidance for Q3 and the full year fiscal 2027 provided on September 1st, 2026. William Blair analyst Jason Ader told subscribers: "[MongoDB] Shares are down sharply following the news, reflecting both the abrupt nature of the transition (ahead of the company’s annual investor day tomorrow) and the fact that Desai had been CEO for less than a year after succeeding Ittycheria at the end of 2025. The departure marks MongoDB’s second CEO transition in less than 12 months, an unusual level of leadership turnover for a company entering a period where execution around AI strategy and platform expansion is arguably more important than ever."
