Suno Drops an Official MCP Server to Generate Music From Any AI Chat
Suno's new Model Context Protocol server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini, and Claude Code generate songs inline without API keys or tab-switching.
- Suno launched MCP Beta, exposing song generation as a tool for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, and Claude Code
- Setup needs no API key: paste https://api.suno.com/mcp into your AI tool's connector settings and sign in
- Generations use existing Suno plan credits and save to your normal Suno library automatically
- Supports conversational creation, voice memo to song, remixing library tracks, and applying your saved Suno Voice
- Early access gated behind a signup form; custom connectors require paid tiers in Claude and ChatGPT
- Follows Suno's recent Speech Beta and v6 releases, pushing the platform deeper into agentic creative stacks
Suno has released an official Model Context Protocol server that lets approved beta users generate and edit music from MCP-compatible clients. Suno lists Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, and Claude Code among the supported hosts. Completed tracks consume existing plan credits and appear in the user’s Suno library.
Anthropic introduced MCP as an open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools. An MCP server describes its available actions in a shared format, allowing a compatible host to invoke them during a conversation. Suno’s implementation removes the custom API integration and browser automation previously required to add music generation to an agent workflow.
One endpoint, account-based access
Suno is distributing Suno MCP Beta through an early-access program. Users must request access, then follow the setup guide to add https://api.suno.com/mcp as a custom connector. Authentication uses a Suno sign-in and account approval, with no API key or local server required.
Claude Code installs the connector with one command:
claude mcp add --transport http suno https://api.suno.com/mcp
Cursor reads the remote server configuration from mcp.json:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "suno": {
      "url": "https://api.suno.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
- Billing: Generations draw from the connected account’s existing Suno credits.
- Storage: Finished tracks save to the account’s standard Suno library.
- Client access: ChatGPT and Claude restrict custom connectors to certain paid plans.
- Authentication: Current onboarding uses an interactive account sign-in. The published setup does not document service-account credentials for unattended backends.
From conversation to Suno library
The server exposes Suno’s main creation and editing actions as tools that the host model can call. Depending on the prompt, the host can draft lyrics and style instructions before sending the generation request to Suno.
- Generate songs from a natural-language description.
- Upload a voice memo or loop and extend it into a full track.
- Remix, cover, mash up, or extend songs already stored in the Suno library.
- Apply a saved Suno Voice to a new generation.
- Request revisions such as a slower tempo, an added bridge, or several variations.
Conversation context can become part of the tool input. If an assistant has already helped write lyrics or storyboard a demo video, it can reuse those details when preparing a soundtrack request. The host model decides which context to send, while Suno handles audio generation and library storage.
Official tooling cuts out browser automation
Recent Suno releases have expanded the range of work an integrated agent can perform. Speech Beta generates voice and music in a single track, according to the company. Suno v6 added plain-language section editing, multi-source mashups, and individual lyric changes without rebuilding an entire song.
Unofficial Suno MCP servers already existed, but many depended on Playwright, headless Chromium, or third-party API resellers. Some also required a Premier account. The official remote endpoint centralizes authentication and tool definitions, eliminating browser automation for the actions it supports and reducing maintenance when Suno changes its website.
Limits that shape deployment
- Shared credit pool: Every connected host spends credits from the same Suno account. The current documentation does not describe per-agent budgets or connector-specific quotas.
- Host restrictions: MCP support and custom-connector availability vary by client and subscription tier. A workflow that runs in Cursor may require a paid plan in ChatGPT or Claude.
- Model variability: MCP changes how a request reaches Suno, while the selected music model still determines output quality. Speech Beta can produce shifting accents and exaggerated pauses, and song generations retain the strengths and weaknesses of their underlying model version.
- Licensing: Suno has announced no separate commercial terms for MCP-generated tracks. The account’s standard plan and licensing terms continue to govern the output.
- Backend use: Interactive sign-in makes the beta straightforward for user-operated agents, but the absence of documented service credentials complicates autonomous server-side products.
First-party MCP servers from creative products such as Figma, Notion, and Suno give agent builders a common protocol across design, documents, and audio. Suno’s beta narrows the integration work for music generation, while leaving teams responsible for credit controls, client eligibility, output review, and licensing.
