AI factories turn energy into intelligence. But before an AI workload can produce its first token, operators must bring an interconnected system of compute, networking, storage, power, cooling, and software online as one productive unit. In a conventional data center build, teams must first select the site, design power and cooling for the deployment, lay out the data center, and plan and install racks and cables. Then they can validate the network and cluster incrementally and bring service online. This work requires coordinated specialized labor, with critical dependencies among installation, infrastructure readiness, and system testing. Delays can push back bring-up and the date the infrastructure begins producing tokens. NVIDIA DSX POD shifts more of this work into a controlled factory environment. One of multiple AI factory implementation models supported by NVIDIA DSX AI Factory Platform, NVIDIA DSX POD reference design is the standardized, factory-built implementation. It enables partners to build standardized containers that pre-integrate AI infrastructure, complete critical validation before shipment, and connect to prepared site infrastructure after delivery. The result is a repeatable approach designed to reduce onsite integration complexity and help operators reach productive AI capacity faster and more predictably. This post explains the foundation of NVIDIA DSX POD, how the reference design aligns with the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform, and how NVIDIA and its ecosystem partners work through product engineering, deployment, and support. A design foundation for moving AI factory integration upstream Modular and prefabricated data centers already exist. The engineering challenge for an AI factory extends beyond placing conventional IT equipment in an enclosure. Rack-scale AI systems combine high-density compute, high-speed scale-up and scale-out networking, liquid cooling, power delivery, telemetry, and management software. These elements behave as one system. Their mechanical, electrical, thermal, and network requirements must remain within specification during factory integration, transportation, installation, and operation. NVIDIA DSX POD provides the design foundation for partners to install rack-scale systems in containers at the factory, functionally test the integrated unit, transport it, and bring it online safely through repeatable processes at the destination. NVIDIA’s investment spans the engineering disciplines required to make that possible, including rack layout, structural loading, power, cooling, cabling, service access, reliability, and validation. This work extends the progression toward greater factory integration to reduce installation complexity and accelerate deployment. NVIDIA has moved from chips and boards to complete rack-scale systems, and large-scale reference architectures like NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD. NVIDIA DSX POD carries this approach into a factory-built AI factory implementation, moving most component integration from the customer site into a controlled manufacturing environment. The reference design does not make containerization mandatory for every AI factory. Conventional data center construction and onsite-integrated designs remain important options. NVIDIA DSX POD adds a standardized path for large-scale deployments where schedule predictability, repeatability, and reduced onsite work are priorities. Architecture aligned with NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform NVIDIA DSX is the broad design framework for co-designed AI infrastructure. It brings compute, networking, storage, power, cooling, facility controls, and software together at the data center level. Customers and partners can implement that framework in different physical forms. NVIDIA DSX POD is a specific realization of that broader design: a standardized AI factory architecture composed of factory-built container types and defined interfaces between them. The architecture is designed around the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform and its rack-scale systems. The reference design describes a complete AI factory rather than a compute enclosure in isolation. It accounts for compute, service and management functions, scale-out networking, storage, power, cooling, cabling, and other supporting infrastructure. Technical requirements for factory-integrated deployment The central purpose of the NVIDIA DSX POD reference design is to make the full deployment process repeatable. That requires coordinated requirements across the following areas: compute integration, networking and storage, cabling and controls, power delivery, liquid cooling, and mechanical design and transportation. Compute integration The NVIDIA DSX POD compute container is designed for NVIDIA Vera Rubin rack scale infrastructure. The design defines how compute and supporting racks fit within the enclosure and how partners address structural support, weight distribution, equipment restraint, service clearances, airflow and liquid-cooling access, rack-level power, and network connectivity. Factory integration also changes the validation boundary. Instead of treating each rack as an independent shipment that will be assembled into a cluster onsite, partners validate the installed compute environment as a deployment unit. The validation plan can cover rack inventory, firmware and configuration baselines, power-on checks, fabric connectivity, sensor operation, cooling integrity, and system-level functional tests before the container leaves the factory. Networking and storage AI workloads depend on predictable movement of model data, training data, checkpoint data, and inference context across the AI factory. The reference design therefore treats networking and storage as part of the system architecture rather than as site-specific additions made after compute arrives. The design defines the connectivity required within a compute container, between containers, and from the modular system to the customer’s external network. It accounts for scale-out fabrics, service and management networks, fiber entry points, trunk cabling, cable routing, labeling, bend radius, service access, and validation of factory-installed link before shipment. Storage requirements follow the same principle. The architecture defines the required capacity, performance, connectivity, management, and service characteristics while allowing the final equipment implementation to reflect the deployment scale and partner solution. This enables storage and networking to arrive as coordinated parts of the AI factory instead of independent systems that must be reconciled late in site integration. Cabling and controls NVIDIA DSX POD reduces the onsite work of cabling in a rack-scale deployment, moving rack-to-rack network cabling, power wiring, control wiring, and sensor integration into the factory wherever practical. The reference design clearly defines cable paths, separation requirements, termination points, labeling conventions, test procedures, and serviceability requirements to help partners easily install and test these connections under controlled conditions to reduce the number of field terminations required after delivery. Power delivery DSX POD makes power delivery seamless with a standard input 800 VDC power design that begins with the electrical input to the core containers and continues through protection, distribution, grounding, rack connections, controls, and telemetry. The reference design defines the power characteristics and interfaces required by the installed AI infrastructure. Partners then engineer the upstream generation, conversion, and regional electrical solution for the customer site. This separation is important because utility conditions, codes, equipment availability, and grid architectures differ across regions. A common interface at the container boundary enables repeatable core designs while preserving flexibility in how ecosystem partners deliver power to each deployment. NVIDIA software can complement the physical design by helping operators manage workloads within available power limits. Policy-driven power control, workload orchestration, and high-fidelity telemetry can help an AI factory convert a fixed power envelope into more productive computing. Liquid cooling Vera Rubin rack-scale systems require coordinated liquid-cooling infrastructure. Within the container, the design covers the plumbing that connects racks to the container cooling interface, including routing, manifolds, isolation, instrumentation, leak detection, pressure integrity, and service access. Partners can assemble, flush, pressure-test, and validate the internal cooling loop at the factory. At the site, they connect the container to prepared water and heat-rejection infrastructure, commission the complete loop, and verify performance under operating conditions. NVIDIA DSX POD changes where integration occurs. It does not eliminate the supporting facility infrastructure. Mechanical design and transportation Shipping high-value rack-scale systems already installed in an enclosure requires a design that treats logistics as an engineering requirement. The container structure, equipment restraints, weight distribution, center of gravity, lifting and handling points, access paths, and transport conditions must work together. The reference design also connects transportation requirements to factory quality gates. Partners inspect the integrated unit before shipment, document its configuration and test status, secure it for transport, and repeat defined checks after arrival. This process helps establish that the system delivered to the site matches the system validated at the factory. Parallelizing factory integration and site preparation The factory-built model changes the deployment sequence. Site teams can prepare land, foundations, power, and external connectivity while partners manufacture and integrate the containers in parallel. At the factory, partners install the rack-scale systems, complete internal cabling and plumbing, integrate controls, load approved configuration baselines, and run functional tests. At the deployment site, construction teams prepare the physical and utility interfaces that the containers require. After delivery, the work focuses on placement, inter-container connections, and hookup to external power, cooling, and networking. Teams then confirm transport integrity, validate the site connections, and complete system commissioning. This model does not remove onsite work. It reduces the amount of complex, repeatable integration performed in the field and moves it into an environment designed for consistent tooling, quality controls, and parallel production. Scaling with standardized deployment units A standardized container architecture gives operators a repeatable unit for planning and expansion. After preparing the supporting site infrastructure, an operator can add compute and supporting capacity using the same defined interfaces and validation process. Standardization also creates a consistent foundation for software optimization. When the underlying compute, network, power, cooling, and telemetry architecture is known software and operational practices for that environment can be tuned easily. Partners can still adapt each implementation to local codes, site conditions, customer requirements, and regional supply chains. This balance is central to NVIDIA DSX POD. The reference design supplies reusable NVIDIA engineering and validation. The ecosystem supplies manufacturing capacity, site expertise, regional engineering, customization, deployment, service, and support. A partner-led delivery model NVIDIA provides the validated AI infrastructure design foundation and works with the ecosystem to prove that rack-scale systems can be integrated, tested, transported, and deployed as repeatable factory-built units. OEMs and ODMs integrate the computing systems. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and infrastructure specialists adapt power and coolin
