Who says data centers don’t create jobs? Many of the industry’s biggest players, including hyperscalers, AI labs, and data-center developers, are advertising six-figure roles for policy wonks able to woo local communities where data centers are planned, a Semafor analysis found. Microsoft is looking for people to lead messaging and community relations for its data center buildout, with skills including “proactive storytelling” and the ability to lead town halls. Applicants at Google for its “data center strategic negotiator” roles should be prepared to “deploy on short notice to contested municipal hearings, planning commissions, and community town halls to counter misinformation,” field technical questions, and address local concerns. The number of postings for data-center fixers has risen as companies try to regain control of the narrative and counter pushback to the projects. Anthropic advertises a salary floor of $265,000 for charmers willing to spend half their time on the road in increasingly hostile territory.
