Hey hey, job hunters (and secret founders) 👋,
How many times this year have you closed an application portal and thought, “honestly, I should just build the thing myself”?
This week, that thought has a deadline. Applications for SR008, the next a16z speedrun residency, close this Sunday, November 1 at 11:59 PM PT. I run talent at speedrun, so consider this me (lovingly) telling you to apply.
speedrun wants to be your first believers: up to $1M ($500K up front, up to $500K more in your next round), $10M+ in credits, and twelve weeks in San Francisco building next to 70 to 80 other founding teams, ending with Demo Day in front of thousands of investors. In between, help with the three things that matter most early on: capital, customers, and talent.
To apply, you need something you’re building (or about to), ideally the people you’re building it with, and about 15 minutes. No traction required. Still in school or a recent grad? That’s Alpha, the student version I wrote you about a few weeks ago.

SR008 runs February through April 2027, in person at the speedrun office in North Beach, San Francisco.
Before day one. Founders who get in can start working from the office early. For SR008, desks open November 9.
Week 1: the founder retreat. SR008’s is February 2 to 4. SR007 kicked off in Los Angeles with two and a half days that were deliberately light on programming, because the #1 piece of feedback from the cohort before was that founders wanted more unstructured time with each other. Each company sent one founder on stage to introduce it (a soft preview of Demo Day), and Marc Andreessen spent most of his session doing Q&A with founders.
Weeks 2 to 5: heads down. Office hours with your investing partner and cohort leads, tactical sessions with the operating team (about 40 people, most of them operators across go-to-market, talent, marketing and fundraising), firesides in small rooms, and dinners. Speakers who’ve come through include Sam Altman, Walden Yan of Cognition, Jesse Zhang of Decagon and Sam Blond of Monaco.
Around week 6: Progress Day. The midpoint. Every company presents in a structured format, a dress rehearsal for the real thing.
All along: customers. Help shaping your brand and running your launch, intros to a network of 150+ C-suite execs and 1,000+ operators who buy software, and AI Faire, a full day of live-demoing to buyers.
The finale: First Look Demo Day, then Demo Day on April 13. For SR007, that meant a line outside the Palace of Fine Arts that stretched to the next street, all 954 seats full plus overflow seating, 80 companies pitching back-to-back, and more than 2,000 investors RSVP’d. Two of the teams on stage, Oruk and Cybernetic Physics, were the first from Alpha to make it all the way through speedrun to Demo Day.
After. “You’re a speedrun founder for life.” Office access ends six weeks after Demo Day. Your investing partner, the credits, the talent network and the other founders remain totally available :)

Nexxa (SR005) builds specialized AI agents for heavy industry. EIGHTEEN open roles across the SF Bay Area, Toronto and Munich, including applied AI engineer, AI vision engineer, product manager, and account executive & business development. A few engineering roles are REMOTE from Toronto. 🏭
Smart Bricks (SR006) calls itself the applied AI lab for real estate: agents that read thousands of pages of documents and underwrite deals. FIFTEEN roles out of Dubai, London and San Francisco, with remote-first options: applied AI engineer, product designer, AI products, product manager, AI products, and a job literally titled Forward Deployed Real Estate Investor. 🧱
Forgepoint (SR005) builds AI for the sales desks at American factories, fresh off a $9.8 million seed led by Primary and a16z speedrun. TWELVE New York jobs, most with salaries posted: GTM engineer (160K-200K), deployment strategist (175K-215K), brand + content manager (110K-200K), and chief of staff (140K-210K). 🗽
Runware (SR001) gives developers one API for generating images, video and audio (back in the newsletter after a year!). TWELVE roles, and nearly all are REMOTE in the US or UK: senior software engineer (US), senior product marketing manager (US), senior machine learning engineer (UK), and an AI creative technologist (UK). 🎨
Emanate (SR006) builds AI agents that run sales for the companies that move steel, aluminum, wire and pipe. ELEVEN San Francisco roles, all on-site: growth engineer, agent product manager, founding account executive, and chief of staff. ⚡
Clouted (SR003) is a virality engine for brands, artists and creators, and the weirdest true detail of the week: they’re hiring a Brainrot Intern in LA at $3K a month to own “~85% of the brainrot content” across their channels. Your screen time is finally a qualification. TEN roles across LA, SF, New York and Makati (Manila), including a founding software engineer in SF (140K-210K) and creative strategist in LA (90K-150K). 🧠
SafeWorld (SR006) works on making AI-powered robots safe to be around people, on a seed round of more than $12 million. SEVEN full-time roles plus internships for students and PhDs, including machine learning software engineer, full stack software engineer, ML + simulation engineer and founding marketer. The application asks for “Your CV. Three slides. Your perspective.” 🤖
Piper (SR006) builds AI for construction preconstruction (the estimating and bidding before anyone breaks ground). NINE roles across product, engineering and go-to-market: software engineer, designer, content marketing, and an SDR for anyone breaking into sales. 🏗️
Clair Health (SR006) is building the first continuous hormone monitor. EIGHT roles in Menlo Park and New York, every one with pay posted: machine learning engineer (130K-170K), product manager (120K-160K), growth lead (130K-170K), and a founding customer experience associate (60K-85K). 💗
General Magic (SR005) builds AI infrastructure for insurance brokerages in Toronto. SEVEN roles, and three are co-ops for students: AI engineer, backend engineer, and design engineer. Plus a role called Forward Deployed Broker. 🇨🇦
Sekai (SR003) turns a plain-language idea into a playable mini-app, built by AI coding agents. SEVEN San Francisco roles: founding iOS engineer, AI product manager, AI agent engineer (coding agent), and senior ML engineer, recommendation. ✨
Othello (SR007) builds AI for the moment that matters most in sales: the call itself. FIVE roles in New York (some also Tel Aviv): senior full-stack engineer, solutions engineer, founding account executive, senior founding account manager and founding business development. Perks include an annual personal AI stipend and up to $3,000 for books. 📚
Tenera (SR007) predicts how people will react to software before it ships. FIVE San Francisco roles, in person: two research scientists (evaluations and modeling), a deployment strategist, and a product designer that can be part-time or full-time. 🔮
Codos (SR007) builds a “company brain” plus the AI agents that run on it, for big enterprises. FIVE roles, and the job description for their member of technical staff (SF or London) says you should be able to “productively spend $30k in tokens per day.” There’s also a REMOTE head of content and a founding growth role. 🧠
