Dear Reader, Jio Platforms made a strong debut on the National Stock Exchange, closing at Rs 1,419, which is a sharp 26.81% premium over its issue price of Rs 1,119. The listing has catapulted the company’s market capitalisation to Rs 13.06 lakh crore, crowning it India’s second most valuable listed firm. It currently trails only its parent, Reliance Industries, and has moved past heavyweights such as Bharti Airtel and TCS. The listing day follows a heavily sought-after Rs 30,213-crore IPO, which was fully subscribed within two hours of launch and ultimately closed 22 times oversubscribed. In other news, PhysicsWallah’s School of Startups (PW SoS) has signed a two-year memorandum of understanding with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support early-stage ventures. The programme, which is expected to focus on Tier-II and III cities and rural areas, combines training and mentoring with prototype development, incubation, investor access and seed capital. Meanwhile, India wants more women in the workforce, but the numbers tell a different story: female labour force participation sits at 34.6% but the country logged nearly 4.4 lakh crimes against women in a single year. Indian women’s safety is a key barrier to their economic ambitions. In response, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued an advisory across central ministries, Indian Railways, and state administrations. Spanning eight critical fronts, from physical infrastructure and policing to bystander intervention and cyber safety, the message is clear: women’s safety is neither a perk nor merely about physical security. It is an economic imperative and a constitutional right to equal opportunity. Women entrepreneursAfter BabyChakra, Naiyya Saggi is rethinking everyday appliances Naiyya Saggi co-founded EDT (Everyday Design & Technology) with award-winning industrial designer Vyasateja Rao to simplify everyday living. Moving beyond traditional utility appliances, EDT reimagines household and personal care devices by combining thoughtful industrial design, safer non-toxic materials, and intuitive consumer technology. Saggi’s core thesis is that everyday home products should not merely perform a baseline mechanical task; they should aid daily routines and reduce cognitive fatigue. On easy mode: EDT prioritises safer, premium materials over cost-cutting shortcuts—exemplified by products like its LUMA PureGlass Air Fryer (using non-toxic borosilicate glass rather than traditional non-stick coatings) and the FLOW Precision Kettle. Rather than chasing luxury exclusivity or competing solely on low price, the brand targets an underserved segment: discerning consumers who want well-designed, reliable products that deliver tangible lifestyle improvements. Building on Saggi’s background in community-led platforms (such as BabyChakra and Good Glamm Group), EDT gathers direct consumer feedback to co-design and iterate hardware and companion software (like WhatsApp-integrated smart cooking workflows). News & updates Materials research: A multi-institute research team from NIT Rourkela, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bombay, and NISER Bhubaneswar has developed novel materials that emit multiple colours of light under ultraviolet radiation. These materials respond to changes in heat and moisture and can have applications in security systems, sensors, and lighting technologies. Addressing the curtain-raiser for the National Startup Awards 6.0, Bhatia also urged the private sector to ramp up efforts to integrate startups into their supply chains.
