Markets eye Nvidia earnings for insight into tech sector

Investors are awaiting the release of Nvidia earnings today both for insight into the chip behemoth’s prospects and clues about the broader economy. The semiconductor firm — the only one in the world with a $5 trillion market capitalization — faces challenges, ranging from the increased cost of memory chips to customer concentration among the giant hyperscalers.
But its results will also provide valuable information as to the health of the tech sector: “The indispensable company of the AI economy,” as The Wall Street Journal put it, has deals with Wall Street to deploy $500 billion to finance chip purchases, and is reportedly in talks to provide a $250 billion guarantee for a huge OpenAI data center.
