Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched the Secret Cloud for Industry (ASCI) on July 1, 2026, a new classified cloud region for U.S. defense contractors, research institutions, and other organizations in the National Industrial Security Program (source). ASCI holds a Provisional Authorization at Impact Level 6, enabling secret-classified workloads on AWS infrastructure. Northrop Grumman is the first customer, moving workloads that previously required months of on-premises hardware procurement. Alongside ASCI, AWS announced a $1 billion cloud incentive program for the U.S. intelligence community to accelerate migration from on-premises systems (source). Separately, AWS partnered with defense technology company Anduril to launch Menace-I with AWS Outposts, an edge cloud solution that brings AWS compute and storage to contested and disconnected environments (source).
